Maker Faire NC 2011 Video

I had the wonderful opportunity to be a volunteer at North Carolina’s 2nd Maker Faire. The Maker Faire that originated in my hometown of San Mateo, CA in 2006 is the largest DIY Festival in the world! Unfortunately, I had already moved out of the Bay Area in 2004, so I never got a chance to go to one until last year in Durham, NC. The Maker Faire NC 2011 was held in Raleigh at the fairgrounds and more than double the amount of last year’s attendees showed up! I got to meet some inspiring Makers and I wanted to share a little of my experience with all of you. If there is a Maker Faire near you I highly suggest you go. It’s great for little kids too! Enjoy my video!

Handmade Kitsch Clothing

Tis the season for fashion shows and fresh ideas! I was so inspired by the Art to Wear and Raleigh Redress fashion shows, that I decided to make my own clothes! My brain was over flowing with ideas, so I had to create some handmade kitsch clothing. I’m not a great sewer and I have one of those $80 Brother sewing machines, but I’m the only one who knows what my clothes look like inside out, right? I spent all week finally starting to put a dent in my fabric stash. The end result? Check out my Flickr slide show!

Da wanda… wanda… wanda…

Yay! I started crocheting an Ichigo about 2 years ago and finally finished it last month! Ichigo is a cousin to the Little Prince in the popular video game, Katamari Damacy. She is still my favorite character 5 sequels later. The catalyst for completing a hibernating UFO (“unfinished object” for all you non crafters), was a request for a magnetic katamari ball. I ended up making one for my daughter too and she needed a character to roll with, so I crocheted Ichigo’s legs, added finishing touches and she was done!

yarn: A mix of Red Heart Super Saver and Caron Simply Soft

hook size: F (love my F hooks!)

Craftster Video Game Swap Round 3

I sent off my package for the Craftster Video Game Swap 3. I had trouble parting with these. I crocheted a Little Prince from Katamari Damacy (also my favorite game), knitted some knucks (fingerless gloves) with playstaytion control buttons embroidered on the knuckles, and made her some pistol earrings (Resident Evil is her favorite game).
